Nationwide 'No Kings' protests set for Saturday; Florida officials take hardline stance; CBS News, June 12, 2025

Anna McAllister, CBS News; Nationwide 'No Kings' protests set for Saturday; Florida officials take hardline stance

 "Florida leaders issue stern warnings

In anticipation of the protests, which are expected to draw hundreds to the streets of Broward and Miami-Dade counties, Florida leaders made their positions clear.

"If you throw a brick, a firebomb or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains at. Because we will kill you graveyard dead," said Brevard County Sheriff.

Governor Ron DeSantis added: "If you're driving on one of those streets, and a mob comes and surrounds your vehicle and threatens you, you have a right to flee for your safety. And so if you drive off and you hit one of these people that's their fault for impinging on you — you don't have to sit there and just be a sitting duck and let the mob grab you out of your car and drag you through the streets."

Moms for Liberty cofounder fails to nab nomination for seat on state's Commission on Ethics; Florida Today, April 29, 2025

Finch Walker, Florida Today; Moms for Liberty cofounder fails to nab nomination for seat on state's Commission on Ethics

"For the second year in a row, the Florida Senate opted not to consider Moms for Liberty Co-founder Tina Descovich for the state's Commission on Ethics.

Tina Descovich, a former member of Brevard's school board, was appointed to the commission by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2024, then again in February 2025 after the Senate chose not to confirm her. In 2024, she was allowed to remain in her post. Because this marks the second time the Senate declined to consider her as a nominee, she can't be reappointed, and she'll be required to leave her post."

DeSantis names Moms for Liberty co-founder to Florida ethics panel; Politico, September 6, 2023

ANDREW ATTERBURY, Politico; DeSantis names Moms for Liberty co-founder to Florida ethics panel

"Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday appointed Tina Descovich, a co-founder of the conservative parental rights group Moms for Liberty, to the Florida Commission on Ethics.

The move gives the Republican governor a staunch GOP ally on the panel responsible for weighing complaints against public officials in the state, which recently saw one remember resign after a conflict-of-interest violation. Aside from organizing the growing — and maligned — parental advocacy group, Descovich is a former school board member and runs a Florida political committee that helped some conservatives win local education elections in 2022."

'Peaky Blinders' creators blast DeSantis for copyright violation in controversial ad; UPI, 7/5/23

Adam Schrader, UPI; 'Peaky Blinders' creators blast DeSantis for copyright violation in controversial ad

"The production team for the hit series Peaky Blinders has ripped Ron DeSantis for copyright violation after the Florida governor used a clip of Cillian Murphy's character in the show without license or permission...

The video, which lasts just over a minute, criticizes Trump for seemingly supporting multiple gay-rights topics, as well as selling "LGBTQ for Trump" shirts, saying he would allow Caitlyn Jenner to use the bathroom at Trump Tower and for celebrating Pride Month in a 2019 tweet. Midway through, the video switches to a meme-filled, music-driven celebration of all the steps DeSantis has made to strip people of their rights in Florida.

The bizarre clip includes several extremely quick shots of Murphy as Thomas Shelby, the fictional boss of a brutal crime family in Britain in the 1920s, smoking a cigarette as if comparing DeSantis' leadership style with that of a criminal."
