Musk’s get-out-the-vote workers didn’t know they were canvassing for Trump – report; The Guardian, October 30, 2024

in Washington, The Guardian; Musk’s get-out-the-vote workers didn’t know they were canvassing for Trump – report

"Elon Musk’s get-out-the-vote effort for Donald Trump has come under renewed scrutiny after paid canvassers reported not knowing beforehand that they were being hired to support the former president.

Workers recruited by Musk’s America Pac to canvass in the battleground state of Michigan only discovered they were working for the Space X and Tesla entrepreneur to drum up voter turnout for Trump after signing non-disclosure agreements, Wired reported.

“I knew nothing of the job, or much of the job description, other than going door to door and asking the voters who are they voting for,” a canvasser who was flown to Michigan from another state told the website. “Then, after I signed over an NDA, is when I found out we are for Republicans and with Trump.”

The canvassers also said they faced threats to their working conditions if they failed to meet stringent door-knocking targets.

The disclosure comes after the Guardian revealed serious question marks about Musk’s voter turnout effort in Nevada and Arizona amid reports that up to 25% of reported door knocks in the state could be fraudulent."

Philadelphia DA sues Elon Musk PAC to stop $1 million lottery for voters; CNBC, October 28, 2024

Dan Mangan , CNBC; Philadelphia DA sues Elon Musk PAC to stop $1 million lottery for voters

"The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office on Monday filed a lawsuit seeking to stop Elon Musk and his political action committee from awarding $1 million to registered voters in swing states, accusing them of “running an illegal lottery.”

The lawsuit by DA Larry Krasner, which accuses Musk and his America PAC of trying to influence voters in the presidential election, comes days after the U.S. Department of Justice warned America PAC that its $1 million daily sweepstakes might violate federal election law.

Krasner’s suit lawsuit names both the Tesla CEO Musk and America PAC as defendants."

Former GOP lawmakers, officials urge Garland to investigate Musk; The Washington Post, October 21, 2024

, The Washington Post; Former GOP lawmakers, officials urge Garland to investigate Musk

"Former Republican lawmakers, advisers and Justice Department officials have called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate tech billionaire Elon Musk for awarding cash prizes to voters in swing states if they sign his political organization’s petition, according to a letter obtained by The Washington Post and sent to Garland on Monday.

The letter argues that the large prizes set up by Musk, a vocal supporter of Republican nominee Donald Trump, violate federal voting laws that prohibit paying people to register to vote.

Musk announced Saturday that his political group, America PAC, would use a lottery to award $1 million each day until the election to a registered voter who signs a petition saying they support free speech and the right to bear arms. Only voters registered in seven swing states — including Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada — are eligible for the prizes."
